The next method to solve Windows Update problems is to run the System File Checker (SFC) tool in order to fix Windows’ corrupted files and services. To do that:
1. Open an elevated command prompt:

2. In the command window, type the following command and press Enter.
*SFC /SCANNOW
3. Wait and do not use your computer until SFC tool checks and fixes the corrupted system files or services.
4. When SFC tool finishes, reboot your computer and check for Updates.Method 6: FIX Windows corruption errors with the System Update Readiness tool (DISM).
The System Update Readiness tool is a Microsoft tool that can fix Windows corruption errors.
Windows 7, Vista&Server 2008:

This comes seven days after another similar patch, which would have been free for all Xbox and Windows players, was canceled after two years of delays.
And while that canceled ’Super Duper’ patch looked impressive, this one takes the intentionally chunky, lo-fi Minecraft to an entirely new level, thanks to a heavy emphasis on ray tracing. All of Nvidia’s RTX graphics cards include a dedicated core designed to efficiently map out massive amounts of light bounces in 3D imagery. This core’s effects on Minecraft might be the most impressive yet for an RTX-compatible game.
The upgrade’s reveal trailer shows exactly how this ’path tracing’ patch will look in action, with more realistic looking models for light bouncing and reflection. The game’s pixellated ’gold’ blocks now glisten like gold. Reflective materials now mirror whatever mobs walk near them. Light cast upon different kinds of materials will naturally glow, and underground caverns will now smolder in impressive red light seeping from nearby lava flows.
In addition to upgrades to ambient occlusion and shadow resolution, the trailer also shows a pretty dazzling overhaul to the game’s water rendering system. Though the game still renders chunky ’bubble’ blocks in the water, it otherwise reflects and refracts whatever light is visible both above and below the water.

Nvidia used Gamescom as an opportunity to lift the curtain on other RTX-exclusive patches coming to PC games in the next year, but these weren’t nearly as revealing. The most dramatic tease, for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, didn’t have much in the way of A/B testing. Other new trailers were even more scant on visual details.
And what about those who own Minecraft on platforms other than the combination of Windows 10 and Nvidia RTX? They too may see visual upgrades in the near future, though these may be subtler. Mojang issued its own announcement on Monday about the game’s upcoming shift to an entirely new rendering pipeline in its ’Bedrock’ edition, the one that is most widely ported and updated. The game’s new engine is called ’Render Dragon.’

A little over two years ago, Minecraft developer Mojang announced that Minecraft would be receiving an awesome, amazing, incredible graphics update. The new Super Duper Graphics Pack (we didn’t name it) was supposed to introduce a swath of new graphics features, including 4K textures, rippling water, cleaner lines, a different lighting engine, dynamic shadows, edge highlighting, and directional lighting. The video showing off the improvements was a hit back at E3 2017, and questions about when the update would be released have popped up on the Minecraft subreddit from time to time ever since.
Today, Mojang declared the Super Duper Graphics Pack update is canceled, permanently. According to the company, “Super Duper was an ambitious initiative that brought a new look to Minecraft but, unfortunately, the pack proved too technically demanding to implement as planned.”

The only explanation the company has provided for why it won’t be bringing the update is that “we aren’t happy with how the pack performed across devices. For this reason, we’re stopping development on the pack, and looking into other ways for you to experience Minecraft with a new look.”
This is a pretty thin explanation. First of all, we would have expected this kind of work — specifically, the work of deciding which devices would be targets for Minecraft’s SDGP — would have been typified before that project had begun. Minecraft runs on a huge number of devices, but you don’t typically develop an expansion like this without targets in mind, because (presumably) you’ll be testing the updates on a variety of systems as you work through them. Discovering after two years that you can’t justify the update because some products can’t run it, if true, speaks to some rather odd development priorities. Why wouldn’t you finish the update or upgrade for the systems that can?
The SDGP required a complete rewrite of the Minecraft graphics engine. Such efforts are not trivial and it isn’t crazy for a total overhaul to take two years. But at the same time, what sense does it make to scrap the rewrite after two full years in development?
Not much makes sense about this. The Super Duper Graphics Pack wasn’t supposed to break Minecraft’s ability to run on older hardware; it was supposed to provide better image quality for machines capable of running it. The upcoming launch of a new console generation and the inevitable upgrade treadmill for mobile devices should have provided a more robust hardware platform for the game relative to 2017. Mojang and Microsoft jointly declared that Minecraft has sold 176 million copies as of May 2019. The original PC version has sold 30 million copies. Microsoft continues to invest in and augment Minecraft with spinoffs like the AR-focused Minecraft Earth. If any game could possibly justify the investment of a new graphics engine a decade after launch, it’d be a title like Minecraft.
The most logical implication here is that Mojang couldn’t find a way to build an engine that both delivered the capabilities they wanted at the top-end and still offered an acceptable level of performance on lower-end hardware. There might have also been fears about the impact of splitting the player base across multiple versions of the game and maintaining updates for both engines going forward. Killing off the engine update after more than two years is a fairly extreme step. Hopefully, there’ll still be a way for some of these optimizations and enhancements to be integrated into the base version. Otherwise, Mojang’s graphics team has just spent two years of work on a major engine rewrite, only to see their efforts basically flushed down the drain.

I wanted to test trading products that would be affordable for most traders, so here’s the criteria I used:
*The software can be purchased for less than $200 total (for one-time downloads), or less than $200 per year (for subscription products)
*The software must be able to be used for manual backtesting
*The software must be able to backtest the Forex market
From there, I’ll backtest a trading strategy that I know nothing about, then reveal the results.
Actually doing the backtesting will reveal a lot about the software.The Challengers
Based on the criteria above, I rounded up the following challengers:
*Forex Tester 4 (paid, one-time)
*Think Trader, formerly Trade Interceptor (free)
*Soft4X (paid, one-time)
*MetaTrader 5 (free)
*TradingView (free and paid, subscription)
*NinjaTrader (free)
*Excel (paid, one-time)
You might have a few questions about these products, so I’ll clarify my choices.
Yes, the regular price of Forex Tester 4 is $299. However, they frequently have sales where you can get it for less than $140, which qualifies it for this test.
You might think that Excel doesn’t belong on this list. I’ll explain why I’ve included it in a bit.
I’m using the Pro version of TradingView, which is currently less than the $200 per year minimum. If you upgrade to the higher plans, then you would be over $200 per year. The price might go up in the future, but it currently qualifies, as of the original writing of this post.The Categories

Alright, now that we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at the strategy that I’ll be testing.The Trading Strategy
I’ve never tested moving average crossovers because they didn’t make sense to me. My belief was that as soon as two moving averages cross over, you’ve already missed the easy part of the move.
…or so I thought.
…but what if they really do work?
I’m willing to keep an open mind, until I get conclusive proof.
That’s why we test.
So I approached this like a new trader and I Googled:
“moving average crossover strategy forex”
The first legit-looking search result that came up was from the DailyFX website.
When I clicked on the link, I was taken to the site with the trading strategy “rules.” This strategy was a perfect test because it’s traded on the daily chart, so I could test it quickly.
The entries and exits are fairly straightforward, so you can test it too and verify my results.
…and it also highlights a few key weaknesses in most of the free trading education on the internet.

According to the blog post, the following are the “rules” for the strategy. I use quotations because what I found wasn’t a complete set of rules.
For future reference, the title of the post is: “Learn Forex: Trend Trading Rules with Moving Average Crosses.”
This is something important to pay very close attention to. Most of the blog posts, YouTube videos and free eBooks on the internet aren’t giving you the rules for a trading strategy.
They are giving you trading ideas, guidelines or concepts.
Ideas are a good start, but too many new traders think that this is a complete strategy, don’t test it, and fill in the blanks with their own rules.

Anyway, back to the DailyFX guidelines. Here’s what I gathered from the post:
*Use the 50 and 200 moving averages, I’m assuming the simple moving average
*When the 50 crosses over the 200, then enter in the direction of the crossover
*Set the stop on the other side of the 200 SMA
*Trade this on the daily chart
Notice that there are key elements missing from this trading plan.What I Added
Here’s what I had to add, to make this a complete trading strategy. I added as little as possible, to make this a tradable plan. There are other tweaks that I would ordinarily make, but let’s start simple.
*Risk 1% per trade
*Take profit when price closes on the other side of the 50 SMA
*Set and forget, no adjusting of the stops or take profits once the trade is entered
Now we have a complete strategy.
Remember that most trading “strategies” out there aren’t really strategies because they are missing a lot of key definitions. You can use this worksheet to define a complete strategy.
Finally, I’m going to be testing this strategy only on the EURUSD. Since I’m going to be testing this strategy many times with different data sources, this will also give us a very good indication of if this strategy works or not. Example Charts

Once I had a trading strategy to test, I started testing it on each software product. I also tracked the time that it took to test the strategy, so you can make software decisions based not only on cost, but on time savings.

So all of the tests were profitable, but they had different results. Still, I would say that this strategy has an edge.
But you may be wondering why the results were so different between the different software products.
Let’s take a look at why this could be and how this affects your confidence in backtesting results.
There are several reasons why the results could have been different:
*The data is always different from broker to broker and maybe that’s just how it worked out.
*Since I only tested once per software program, I might have made some execution errors. This is why it’s important to test more than once.
*There may have been some settings that were different between the platforms.
*The number of trades was relatively low, so maybe the averages haven’t had time to work out yet.
This difference in results also brings up an important point. You should test with data from different brokers and currency pairs, to see how robust a strategy is.
Backtesting software that only allows you to use 1 or 2 data sets won’t give you the full picture of how well a strategy works.
But overall, this strategy was profitable across the board. So if this strategy interests you, it might be worth checking out.

Before I get into the rankings, I’ll share with you my efficiency rankings.
I measured the efficiency of each software in days of historical data tested, per minute of backtesting time.
According to this measure, Soft 4X came out on top.
But remember, faster isn’t always better. You can miss trades when you go too fast.
I actually like the fact that Forex Tester 4 has a reasonable top speed, so you don’t overshoot trade entries. In the end however, it’s up to you to set a speed that works for you.
Since this was a simple and straightforward strategy, I could go really fast.
On this other hand, if this were a more complex strategy, I would predict that I would have to go slower and the efficiency rating would be very similar across the board.Best Free Backtesting Software
Data is data however, and those were my results for this strategy.
Now that I had a chance to try all of the backtesting platforms, here are my final rankings. I’ll also give you some analysis on why I chose the top two in each category.

TradingView is such a pleasure to use. You can use it on almost any device with a browser and you don’t have to install any software. That’s why it’s my favorite charting and trading platform.
Forex Tester 4 is second because it’s very well integrated, but it still only works on Windows, which is frustrating. You can also download a lot of different data feeds from within the program, making it much more useful than the other software on the list.Value for Money

Soft4X is currently under $100 and the best value for money. It provides 2 data download sources built-in, which is good enough for most people to get started. You can also upload your own data into MT4, if you want to test with data from other brokers.
The only downsides to Soft4X are that it’s little clunky and it doesn’t automatically save your work. If you don’t hit the save button before you close, you will lose all of your data.
But Soft4X does automatically track your backtesting trades, which is a huge bonus. It also provides a MT4 report for your trades, which is really nice.
Forex Tester 4 is slightly more expensive than Soft4X, when it’s on sale. However, it is a much more integrated solution and easier to use, so I feel that it’s worth the extra cost.
If I’m only considering value for money however, Soft4X is the better choice.Data Availability

Forex Tester’s data service allows you to download data from multiple brokers, right in the software. That alone is a huge time saver because you don’t have to search for third party data, then store it on your computer.
However, if there is third party data that you would like to use, then you can upload that into Forex Tester to. It really is the best solution.
TradingView gives you instant access to data from multiple Forex brokers, which is awesome. But you cannot upload your own data, so that’s why it’s at number 2.Usability for Manual Backtesting

Forex Tester still wins in this category. It’s a much more integrated solution, it tracks your backtesting trades automatically and it has most of the frequently used indicators.
You can also have custom indicators programmed for you (find a programmer here), and you can even test automated strategies.
Since Soft4X is a plugin to MT4, there are limitations to the software. But since it also saves you from using a spreadsheet to record trades, it’s a great option.Best Overall Software

Forex Tester 4 is still the best Forex backtesting software for manual testing. I can’t say that I’m surprised.
However, I’m extremely surprised (in a good way) with Soft4X.
It has matured into a very viable backtesting option. If you’re strapped for cash, or if you aren’t sure if Forex trading is for you or not, then it’s totally worth checking out Soft4X.
The only caveat to that statement is that I haven’t stress tested Soft4X, like I have Forex Tester. I’ve literally tested tens of thousands of trades with Forex Tester, but only a handful with Soft4X.
In addition, since MetaTrader is phasing out MT4, who knows how long we will be able to use Soft4X, because they don’t have a MT5 version yet.
So, if you want the absolute best product on the market, Forex Tester 4 is it. Excel
I mentioned in the beginning that I would explain why I’ve included Excel on this list.
There are certain individuals out there that believe that Excel is the best solution for manual backtesting.
So if you come across anyone that insists that Excel is a good manual backtesting solution, then point them to this post.
Excel can be used for testing some automated strategies.
But it’s totally worthless for manual testing. There are no charts and you aren’t practicing the mechanics of entering trades.
Backtesting software can also be used for trading practice, much in the same way that a boxer goes to the gym to train.

Whew, so that’s it!
This took a lot of time and research, but it was worth it.
In the end, Forex Tester is still the best software out there for manual backtesting.
But I’m glad that I also found Soft4X. It’s a good software solution that has some drawbacks, but can be a good solution for some people.Backtesting Software Free
I’m just a little nervous that it only works on MT4, when that version is being phased out.
I also found another trading strategy that could have an edge. More testing would have to be done on this strategy, but it looks promising.

The United States military uses many different patches and badges to help distinguish rank, unit, and branch of military. The patches also represent special classifications or awards. This is a mix of songs from records that I turn to in dark times, both personal and collective. It is not the music that I listen to when I want to be comforted or need a psych-up; it’s the music for when I am roiling inside and searching for a sonic mirror to help me understand where I am. Whether the darkness is wrought from internal struggle or larger, collective anxiety (or a feedback loop of both), I connect with certain music as an emanation from other reaches of the greater human consciousness, reminding us that we are all inexorably bound together in time and space.
Brigitte Fontaine & Areski Belkacem – “Diabolo”
The singing on this track is so unusual. The voices overlap in what sounds like some sort of incantation or an evil nursery rhyme. Brigitte’s voice is clean and plaintive while Areski’s sounds wetly malignant as he stumbles over his own breath. The negative space in this song is what really gets to me: the street sounds and ambient air in the background seem to accentuate a present absence, a massive void.
Laurie Spiegel – “Dirge Part II”
Drone that sounds vaguely hymnal. This is a song I consistently turn to on blue days. Its weather is muted and gray, and the synthesizer embodies the quality of a slow river.
Les Rallizes Dénudés – “But I’m Different”
This is not Les Rallizes Dénudés’ heaviest song, but to me it is the most elegiac. It begins quietly and sprawls out over its course. The bass line is like the path of Sisyphus, climbing up only to roll back down in endless descent, while the guitar seems to surge and recede from the liminal space of a dream you keep trying to remember but remains out of reach.
Fabulous Diamonds – “Inverted Vamp”
Much of Fabulous Diamonds’ music has a very interior feeling, like a recording from the cave of the brain as it spirals through different iterations of the same thought pattern. Nisa Venerosa’s repetitive drumming and chant-like vocals act as an axis for Jarrod Zlotic’s keys. The moaning, buzzing synths and cold, high piano weave together then slowly fragment into dischord.
David Bowie – “I’m Deranged”
I have a visceral love of this track and its pure, sexy menace. There is a reckless propulsion here, and a mournful weirdness, too many things going on, too many thoughts. I like that the album was intended to be a musical interpretation of a short story he wrote, and I find myself repeatedly drawn in by the fragmented narrative it presents.
Funkadelic – “Maggot Brain”
This track is a testament to the power of recorded music. Eddie Hazel unleashes an utterly wrenching, absolutely unequaled ten-minute guitar solo, a pure concentration of energy through a time and place that will never exist again but is preserved here like an ancient beetle in amber. It feels to me like a howl in the face of the impersonal void, a paean to the knowledge that all will be inexorably lost.
Nick Drake – “Black-Eyed Dog”
I can’t think of anything to say about this song that isn’t somehow an insult to its naked intimacy.
Lea Cho and Russ Waterhouse have a special alchemy with which they explore questions about the nature of reality. Mechanistic beats and the slightly nauseated drone and guitar riff give this song an uneasy quality. It suggests some sort of essential instability. Flute, piano, organ and guitar coil and unfurl in a swirl of spontaneity and beauty, but that unnerving drone is always present. Nothing is as safe as it seems.
Six Organs of Admittance – “Close to the Sky”
I absolutely love Ben Chasny’s singing on this track. His high, whispering waver sounds like it’s reaching across a distance of time. But there is always so much that words cannot encompass, and the searing guitar steps in to say it as it needs to be said.
Judee Sill – “Crayon Angels”The Weekend Free Music Downloads
Judee Sill’s music is all troubled times and unbridgeable loneliness. On this track, there is the feeling that she has relinquished any hope of ever fitting with the world. The pain of life is worn out, so she tosses it over her shoulder and looks to whatever comes after. The casual melody both belies and enhances the pathos of the lyrics.
Catherine Ribeiro & Alpes – “Paix”
I am obsessed with this record, this track in particular. The long, slow burn has the character of some phenomena of the natural world: a tidal wave or a storm. It has the same shape, building in momentum and force to a crest then receding back from whence it came. The crest here is the siren song, fatally irresistible, of Catherine Ribeiro’s deep, commanding, unmistakable voice.
